Saturday Meet at Southdown
Good Evening Green Wave Parents,
The meet this Saturday will be at Southdown (Directions: Heading south on Rt 2 turn right at the Wawa, make next left and the pool is on the right. Pool Address: 3334 Locust Street, Edgewater, MD). Warm-ups will start at 8:00am with a meet start time of 8:30am. Please arrive by 7:45. Please remember that you cannot wear any suit or cap with another teams name on it. Our team caps are fine and our suit or any other suit is fine so long as it does not have another teams name on it. When you arrive find Theresa Malone to check in your swimmer and Patrick Malone to check in for the job you signed up for.
Our team will be setting up on the far side of the pool as you enter the gates. I would bring chairs because it isn't guaranteed there will be enough at the pool for everyone. Parking throughout the neighborhood is fine. Along Locust Street itself will have signs out directing you to to park on one side of the road to allow room for emergency vehicles in necessary. This is a 5 lane yard pool so times will seem faster until they are converted to meters. Attached you will find the list of events each swimmer is swimming and the meet program (heat sheets). Feel free to print out the program to reference during the meet if you want.
For new swim families, find your child's name and under it will be the events they will be swimming in the order they will swim them in. The first number will tell you the event number. The meet starts with event #1 and will proceed through each age group and stroke until the last event of the meet which is event #56. This may seem like a lot but it will go by pretty fast.
The next set of numbers you see will tell you the heat your swimmer is in. For example if you see 1/3 this means your swimmer is in heat 1 of 3 for that event. The faster times are in the later heats but the fastest time wins no matter what heat it is swam in. If you do not have a time in our system you will likely swim in the first heat for this meet and then once a time is on record you will be placed in the heats based on your times.
The next thing you will see is the stroke being swam. 25yd means the swimmers swim 1 length of the pool (from one end to the other), 50yd means 2 lengths of the pool and 100yd means 4 lengths of the pool. 8 and under swimmers only swim 25s. The 9-10 swimmers swim 50s in freestyle but 25s for back, breast and fly . The 11 and up swimmers swim 50s for each stroke.1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers will score points for the team. The team with the most points at the end of the meet will "win" the meet.
Looking forward to a great first meet of the season! Please e-mail with any questions.
